David Marez

"La Voz de Oro"

Biography

Marez was born in Mathis, Texas. He is known for his emotional song interpretations, and believes in performing each song as though he personally experienced the emotion the song reflects.
"As a singer, it's good to be an entertainer, but you should never abandon what you're doing. In other words, don't let the showman take away from the interpretation."

"I let the song come first and the rest second because the mind and energy should not split. One should put all heart and soul into each song."

"I'm very sentimental, so when I do love songs, whether they're happy or sad, I want to feel the words in me. I want my body to be the passage they take. To me, music is like breathing. I need a dose of music daily and I'm always thinking musical thoughts."
"To me, getting off the stage is like coming back from a utopia."

"When I started I learned a lot from the class acts of the time and I'm still learning."-- David Marez

Musical History - In 1970's he sang with several neighborhood garage bands. Marez joined the Royal Jesters as a lead singer, changing them to a Spanish sound. He formed "People" with the crème of the top musicians in Texas, which included Joe Posada-- Saxophone, Richard Solis--Drums, Steve Velasquez-- lead guitar (doing jazz now), and Julian Carillo on keyboards and continues today to use the best Tejano musicians to date.

In the 80's he went back to college. Marez competed in Festival OTI and came in Second Place. Marez reformed People Band and at the 1989 Tejano Music Awards won Album of the Year "Sold Out", Song of the Year "Fijate", and Male Vocalist of the Year.
In the 90's Marez continued with hit albums after hit albums, he expanded to Mexico and did video work.

Today he continues to record and tour. He recently completed a production on Bob Gallarza's label, On The Edge Productions titled "Bringin' it Back". On this recent production he had the honor of working with such talented musicians such as Joe Posada, Stephanie Montiel, Stanley Revillas, Joel Guzman, Al Gomez, Lonny LaLane, Chente Barrera, and Bob Gallarza to name a few.

As David Marez states "I hope my music is as exciting to you as it is to me recording it. I will continue to sing, record, and be what I am, and that is a Tejano Music Fan."
