Mariachi "Trovadores de America"

This band was born in Hartford Connecticut in 2003 in response to the growing demand by the Hispanic population in this state for Mexican music. Although Mexicans are not the largest immigrant Hispanic population in this region as yet, still Mariachi music creates the most alliance among the diverse Hispanic countries.

Trovadores de America is a multi-cultural ensemble whose members include musicians of different nationalities. The band is integrated with experienced and talented musicians from various backgrounds, and its size and instrumentation can be tailored as appropriate for specific events. Members perform in traditional Mariachi costumes. The band is young, but already it has treated many New England audiences to wonderful, authentic sounds. The majority of their performances are for private functions, however, schools, libraries and multicultural events promoters have increasingly requested their music for educational purposes.

In addition to the interpretation of traditional Mexican music, the group's goal is to revitalize old tunes that have been shadowed by modernization and extremely commercial music. Also, another important goal is to create original compositions and to serve as a musical liaison between the different cultures that co-exist in this country.

The group was founded by Eduardo Rocha from Mexico and Jaime Chiluisa from Ecuador. The members of the band also include native New Englander Hank Zorn (trumpet) from New Britain, Chris Payne (violin) from England and Judy Simonds (vihuela) from Hartford.
