2006 is going to be the biggest year for Pura Vida. They'll
be heading into the studio to record their debut album which
will have a well known reggaeton producer at the helm. Their
CD will contain the reggaeton style that you've heard by them
but mixed with bachata, merengue, cumbia, hip hop and even r&b.
They'll also be heading out on a national tour and then heading
over to Costa Rica with Banton and Ghetto. But before all of
this became possible Pura Vida struggled and worked hard to make
this happen.
The Freak'N Costa Rican and B Luva didn't meet up until 2002.
B had prior experience recording artists and Freak'N had been
writing for years. The two got together and recorded numerous
promotional rap songs with beats provided by DJ Sho Down from
Rock It Productions. Always keeping everything fresh and new,
they decided to search they decided to begin working with other
producers who were trying new things.
DJ Prozpect was building a company called Reggaetonz Finest.
His beats were incredible. From the first time Pura Vida heard
his tracks they knew they had something. B and Freak'N began
writting song after song as DJ Prozpect provided more beats for
them. The first song they ever recorded was "Toda La Noche" and
they kept recording until they had enough tracks for an entire
CD. They decided to make their first release a promotional CD
so that everyone would be able to hear their music for free.
In doing so, they remixed two industry beats for promotional
use only which would be included on their CD. Pura Vida's first
single would be "Bailando My Boricua".
The single recieved radio play locally and then on a national
level. Mixtape DJs and club DJs began spinning their song from
country to country. Without every having a single record sale
or being on any charts they were making waves in the reggaeton
industry. Their ability to write hooks in Spanish and verses
in English became a trademark for them. Because they were raised
in non spanish speaking families, writting their rap verses in
English was natural to them. But being that they were Latin and
knew how to speak a little Spanish they poured their hearts into
their Spanish hooks. Together they would create the music that
you hear today.
After numberous interviews, radio spots and performances, Pura
Vida decided to shoot their first music video. They hired Brazil
from Reality Media Company in Chicago, IL to direct their video.
Because they wanted to keep it real, they decided to go for a
more "Girls Gone Wild" style video as opposed to shooting
an "on location" video shoot. The reason for this was
because Pura Vida wanted to be in the crowd with their people,
dancing on the dance floor and tearing it up. They decided to
shoot the video in New Jersey at Club Rio. The club was packed
from wall to wall for their performance and the video shoot became
a huge success. Pura Vida was onto something.
Pura Vida also attended the 2005 Latin Rap Conference in New
York City. Through the company Fuerte, they were able to release
their CD to all attending and meet major players in the reggaeton
movement. This would become a milestone in their careers. Since
then they have had offers from major labels, distros and investors.
Pura Vida's main goal has and always will be to bring you the
hottest club music that you can dance to.
