Opium Western is the new album from singer/songwriter Dane Mulligan, formerly of the Arizona-based band, “Desert Saints”. The album was produced by Dane with the help of two noteworthy individuals: Larry Elyea, acclaimed producer and owner of Mind’s Eye Digital Studios, and Grammy-winning mastering engineer, Brian Gardner.

It is now the name of his new band based in Wichita, Kansas. The band is comprised of Dane (vocals and guitar), Jim Newlon (drums, backing vocals) and Brandon Hunsaker (bass guitar).

The music of Opium Western has many ingredients; but the main idea amounts to what could simply be described as a “crossover” band.
“I think as soon as you can lump a band into a grenre you’ve already painted it into a corner. There is no genre for us right now, only a fascination with this concept of fusing Latin / Norteno inspired melodies with rock music.”
“What we’re looking for in a label, a management company – and even the venues we play – is an openness to what we’re doing, a shared belief that we’ve found something interesting and unique, and a desire to foster it.”
